History
Our story begins in 1895 when the Swedish Wallenberg dynasty purchased a paper mill in Mölndal on Sweden’s west coast and named it Papyrus, the root of the word ‘paper’, with an etymology that traces back to ancient Egypt and the dawn of civilization. Even then, the mill—which had been in operation since 1653—was considered the most technically advanced paper mill in Sweden.

The Twentieth Century saw Papyrus go from a small-scale local business in a fragmented market to a Pan-European operation, a journey which gained momentum in the 1980s when new EU rules paved the way for consolidation, and markets in Eastern Europe opened up.

In recent decades, another shift has taken place, with digital processes and technologies transforming the way we create, consume, collaborate and connect. As champions for progress, Papyrus has stepped up as an ambassador for paper in the post-digital era, helping industries transition and adapt to new ways of working.
