Carbon emission & climate impact

Supplier engagement

Sustainable products
- We actively promote the most sustainable alternatives where possible.
- We aim at reducing consumption actively through a smart assortment.
- We are actively working on optimizing our operations to being carbon neutral by 2030 in terms of emissions in Scope 1 and 2, as well as Scope 3 for downstream distribution through carbon offsetting.
- We continuously drive our suppliers to make their products and supply chains more sustainable.
Carbon emissions & climate impact
From our morning commute to how our products come to your doorstep, every step has an effect on the planet. This is why we are international in our every step to minimize our carbon emissions whenever possible.
For the past three years we have been measuring and reporting on our emissions as a group. We have implemented several initiatives to minimize our limited Scope 1 and 2 emissions. At the same time we have been actively engaging with suppliers who share our commitment to lowering Scope 3 emissions.
By the end of 2024, as a part of OptiGroup, we have committed ourselves to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). In 2025, we will submit our targets to SBTi. We see this as a valuable opportunity for collaboration and as a catalyst for meaningful and lasting change in the fight against climate change. Through such commitments, we are dedicated to creating a better future for generations to come.

Supplier engagement
As a wholesaler, we are strengthened by the partnerships we build with our suppliers. Together, we strive to go beyond compliance with environmental and social issues and set high - but necessary - standards for sustainability.
A key area in which we engage our suppliers is on reducing our carbon footprint. Since the majority of our carbon footprint is coming from our supply chain, collaboration with our suppliers is essential in lowering our collective impact. We maintain regular, open communication with our suppliers, collecting data and working together toward meaningful emissions reductions.
How we engage our suppliers
- Compliance with our supplier code of conduct.
- Risk analysis for new suppliers (i.e Amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative).
- Supplier assessment on quality, environmental performance and social impact.
- Preference for suppliers products and services with a reduced ecological footprint.
- Preference for suppliers who are committed to established environmental management system.

Providing our customers with high-quality and sustaibable products is our business and passion. We are proud to offer a growing range of products that generate fewer emissions, create less waste, contain more recycled content, and carry recognized sustainability certifications.
Papyrus has been the first European merchant to have received the FSC® certification in 2003, since then we have remained a key supplier of FSC® and PEFC certified goods. For our cleaning and hygiene product range, we offer internationally recognized ecolabels such as EU Ecolabel, the Nordic Swan or Cradle to Cradle certification.
We assess functional, qualitative and sustainability considerations, adjusting our product range to ensure the best buying options for our customers at all times.

How do we ensure that we provide sustainable products?
- By offering renewable, recycled and recyclable products.
- By providing clear, transparent information about the sustainability attributes of our products and services.
- By promoting sustainable forestry and fibre-based materials (e.g. graphic paper, corrugated cardboard, tissue paper) from certified sources such as FSC® and PEFC.
- By ensuring the chemicals used in our products and services are safe and free from prohibited substances.
Renewable is a resource that can naturally replenish itself over time.
Paper is considered renewable if it is made from raw materials that can naturally regenerate over time, such as trees grown in sustainably managed forests or fast-growing plants like bamboo. Paper made from trees harvested from certified sustainable forests (e.g., FSC® certified) is renewable because those trees are replanted and managed to regrow.
Recycled is a product that has been made from materials that were previously used and then processed to be used again. Recycled paper is made from reused paper fibers, typically collected through recycling programs. It includes post-consumer recycled content (used paper from homes/offices) and pre-consumer content (scraps from the manufacturing process. Notebook paper made from old newspapers or office paper that's been processed and remade into new sheets is recycled paper.
Recyclable is a product that can be collected and processed to make something new instead of being thrown away. Recyclable paper refers to paper products that can be collected, processed, and reused to make new paper products. Not all paper is easily recyclable - coated or ®contaminated paper (e.g., greasy pizza boxes, plastic-laminated paper) may not be accepted. Clean printer paper, newspapers, and cardboard are recyclable because they can be broken down and remade into new paper products.
