• Opacity: Higher is better for two-sided text and images
• Whiteness: Soft white or high whiteness for colour contrast
• Finish: Uncoated versus coated
• Smoothness and stiffness: Page-turn feel, ink laydown, and runnability
• Grain direction: Must run parallel to spine for flat pages and strong binding
• Printing techniques, binding and finish, durability and lifespan, use and reading experience, images and design are, of course, also important factors to consider.
