Paper books are here to stay

There are many good reasons why we should all read paper books. According to several studies, reading paper books strengthens concentration, memory and vocabulary and can reduce stress more effectively than many digital leisure activities. Books open the door to new ideas and deepen understanding.

Furthermore, paper is one of the materials that, when produced and handled in accordance with the high environmental standards and certifications required in our part of the world, has a low environmental impact. As a responsible paper wholesaler, we set high and necessary sustainability standards together with our suppliers. Explore our sustainability work here →

Worth considering when choosing paper for your book project

  • Grammage and bulk: impacts thickness, stiffness, spine width, shipping cost
  • Opacity: higher is better for two-sided text and images
  • Shade/whiteness/brightness: cream reduces glare for novels; high whiteness improves color pop
  • Finish/texture: uncoated (natural, writeable) vs coated matt/silk/gloss (sharper images)
  • Smoothness and stiffness: page-turn feel, ink laydown, and runnability
  • Grain direction: must run parallel to spine for flat pages and strong binding
  • Moisture content/dimensional stability: affects curling, waviness, registration

Printing techniques, binding and finish, durability and lifespan, use and reading experience, images and design are, of course, also important factors to consider.
